YMF Showcase Concerts

YMF showcases its Artists Roster members via an annual concert series open to the public.
Generally, no advance reservations are required.
The 2011 concert series, celebrating our 27th Anniversary, will be presented at:

Sunday, June 5 ~ 2:30 p.m.

Harp ~ Emily Levin, 20, Centennial

Indiana University Jacobs School of Music sophomore, from Centennial, was a finalist in the 17th International Harp Contest in Israel in 2009 and was praised by the Jerusalem Post after performing with the Jerusalem Symphony Orch. The top winner in the 2010 American Harp Society Anne Adams Awards and recent winner of the Indiana University harp concerto competition, she is playing this May in a concert series with the Colorado Chamber Players.

 

Violin ~ Emily Switzer, 15, Denver

Kent Denver sophomore. is current concertmaster of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra and 2010 winner of the DYAO Concerto Competition. She is a three-time concerto soloist with the Lakewood Symphony, has been an Up Close and Musical guest artist and (as a 10-year-old) performed on tour with the CSO at "Concerts for Young People" in Alamosa, Colorado Springs and Greeley. She studies with DU professor James Maurer.

 

Piano ~ Claire Chen, 16,  Superior

Fairview H.S. sophomore, a Larry Graham student from Superior, is a YMF newcomer. In 2010, she won the Colorado State Music Teachers Association. Concerto Competition and placed second in both the Wells Music and Kawai Piano Competitions in the Advanced Division. She also took third place in the University of Northern Colorado’s pre-college solo competition and has performed with the Niwot Timberline Orchestra.

 

Cello ~

Rainer Eudeikis, 20,  Denver

Multi-term YMF Roster member is a recent Univer-sity of Michigan grad. The Denver resident has participated in numerous festivals, including the Bowdoin (ME) International, Academe Musicale Internationale in France and Aspen Music Festival and School. He has studied with retired CSO principal Jurgen de Lemos and performed in master classes for many noted cellists. This summer, he will study and perform in Spain, Turkey and Germany.

Piano ~ Christina Lan, 18, Littleton

Now in her 4th term on YMF’s Roster, the 2011 Mountain Vista grad (who made her orchestral debut at age 9 with the Breckenridge (CO) Symphony Orchestra) won the 2010 Jeff Bradley Young Musicians Competition sponsored by the Colorado Symphony and The Denver Post and performed twice with the CS during the 2010-11 concert season.  Among her other recent successes were winning the 2009 Wells Music/Steinway Sr. Div. Competition, placing 2nd in the 2010 Boulder Philharmonic Young Artist Concerto Competition and performing for the Houston, TX Public Radio Station in 2009

Tommy Peeples, 17, Thornton

A two-term YMF Roster contender as a pianist, the Peak-to-Peak prepster won his current  term as a violinist   and top high school performer in the Non-Piano Division of the Dec. 2010 Auditions. He has studied violin for 11 years and been a member of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra for 4 yearsSince his strings debut, he has been accepted three times for the prestigious Quartet Program, won the Longmont (CO) Symphony Young Artists Competition and been chosen for the National Suzuki Assn. of the Americas Youth Orchestra… and he continues to build a two-instrument repertoire.

Janis Sakai, 21, Denver

The Top college and overall Non-Piano contender in YMF’s 2010 Auditions is a 2011 graduate of DU’s Lamont School of Music, where she was concertmaster of the Lamont Orchestra.  A past  member of multiple youth orchestras, she has won many awards, performed orchestral and solo works during summer programs on three continents and been selected for Pinchas Zuckerman and Yo Yo Ma master classes.  The Chicago-reared standout, chosen for the 2010 National Repertory Orchestra. at Breckenridge, also was a 2010-11 New World Symphony substitute violinist.

 

Piano ~

 

Yale Work, 20, Lafayette

Juilliard School of Music senior is a YMF four-termer and Top College Performer in the Piano Div. of YMF’s 2010 Auditions (also was top HS performer in 2006) .  He has won the Wells Music/Yamaha Piano Competition three times, taken first in the Boulder Philharmonic Concerto Competition and been an Music Teachers National Assn state winner and regional alternate. He placed 3rd  in the 2008 Missouri Southern International Competition and first in the 2010 Aspen Music Festival and School Concerto Competition. He also was a 5-year cellist with the DYAO (1-year as principal).

 

Sunday, October 2 ~ 2 p.m.

Violin ~ Zoe Proett, 13, Littleton

Precocious 2011 winner of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO) Concerto Competition began playing the violin as a 6-year-old Suzuki student in London, where she lived until moving to Colorado in 2004.  Coached by Harold Wippler, former Denver Symphony Orchestra concertmaster, the home-schooler played for two seasons with the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra, then served as 2009-10 concertmaster for the DYAO’s Conservatory Orchestra and won its Concerto Competition before moving in 2010 to the main DYAO.  The first-term YMFer has performed with the Up Close and Musical ensemble, taken many master classes and been a guest soloist with the Littleton Symphony Orchestra.  She also enjoys figure skating, drawing and reading history.

 

Piano ~ Henry Zhang, 15, Longmont

Earning his second YMF Roster berth in the 2010 Auditions, the Fairview H. S. junior repeated as Top Junior Piano Performer and Shaak Award winner.  A student of Boulder’s Crystal Lee, he entered the YMF hearings as first-place finisher in the 2009 Yamaha ACD III Piano Competition, as well as 2010 State winner and West Central Division alternate for the Music Teachers National Association Junior Piano Competition.  He made his orchestral recital debut at the University of Northern Colorado as winner of the 2009 Colorado Piano Festival’s Pre-College Solo Competition and also has performed with the Breckenridge Orchestra. He is a member of the Colorado American Regions Mathematics League Team and enjoys cross-country running and skiing.

 

Violin ~ Isaac Allen, 14, Longmont

Starting violin lessons at age 9, the Boulder H. S. freshman won his first competition at age 10 with the Boulder Youth Symphony. Since then, he has played with CU and CSU groups and the Broomfield Civic, Littleton Symphony and Longmont Symphony Orchestras -- performing with the latter as youngest-ever overall winner of its Young Artists Competition.  In 2010, he was named the Denver Young Artists Orchestra’s “Best New Member” and with his twin brother Karl, a violist, shared a premier quartet award at the Fort Collins Festival.   Highlighting a busy 2011 summer was the DYAO’s European Music Tour, study at the Heifitz Internationl String Institute and a solo performance in the Colorado Public Radio Studio. With a trio of area teachers, Isaac manages to also be a pianist, composer, active community performer and Black Belt karate competitor.

Joseph Eisele, 16, Centennal

Cherry Creek H. S. junior, who began his music studies as a preschooler and captivated a Denver Retirement Center in his first performance at 4½, won his 3rd YMF Roster term as Top High School and Overall Performer in the Piano Division of YMF’s 2010 Auditions. Mentored by CU professor emeritus Larry Graham, he most recently was 2008 MTNA Baldwin Junior state champion; 2009 guest soloist with the Breckenridge Symphony Orchestra in the 100th Anniversary of the Breckenridge Music Festival; winner of the “Audience Favorite Prize” at the 2010 International Piano Competition sponsored by the International Institute of Young Musicians, and first-prize recipient at the Colorado Piano Festival’s 2010 Pre-College Solo Competition in Greeley.  The Tae Kwon Do black belt holder also skis and plays drums with his school band.

 

All seating is general admission.  Donations for the concert will be gratefully accepted at the
YMF table outside Hamilton Hall's entry door.
