detailing requirements,
Twelve of the states exceptionally talented young classical musicians comprise YMFs 2009-2010 Support Roster. The current class earned their prestigious berths via YMFs 2008 Biennial Solo Auditions drawing 58 contenders.
Sponsored by the Edmund T. and Eleanor Quick Foundation, the two-segment hearings were adjudicated by two independent panels of judges unaffiliated with YMF. Also at stake in the tri-level competition were YMF cash prizes for top performers overall and in each age division of the two audition sections, Piano and Strings/Other Instruments.
Juilliard School of Music student Jeffrey Lee, of Boulder, bidding for a third consecutive two-year term, took honors in the College Division (18-23 years) and Overall in the Piano Section. Violinist Isabelle Wong, of Centennial, one of five newcomers on the current YMF Roster, claimed Junior Division laurels (14-under) and Overall plaudits in the Non-Piano Section. Two Shaak Awards, memorializing the late Denver piano teacher Bernard T. Shaak, went to Christina Lan, of Lone Tree, and Henry Zhang, of Longmont, the top High School and Junior Division performers. respectively, in the Piano Section.
With no automatic carryovers, all current Roster members and alternates must reaudition at the end of 2010 to maintain or upgrade their Roster placements, provided they still meet the age and residency requirements.
Since its founding in November 1984, YMF has helped nearly 125 young Coloradans further their aspirations of professional performance careers in classical music. Our mission is to help qualified youth reach the threshold of that goal.
